Is ER70S welding wire made of stainless steel?

ER70S welding wire is not made of stainless steel, but rather belongs to the carbon steel welding wire family. The "70" in its name indicates a tensile strength of approximately 70,000 psi (about 483 MPa), and "S" signifies a solid welding wire. This type of welding wire is specifically designed for welding low-carbon steel, possessing excellent welding performance and mechanical properties, and is commonly used in building structures, pipeline welding, and other fields.

ER70S-3 is a common model in the ER70S series, with the following characteristics compared to the basic model:

Strong deoxidizing ability: Added with appropriate amounts of silicon, manganese, and other deoxidizing elements, it effectively prevents porosity during welding.

Wide applicability: Suitable for welding steel with slight rust or oil stains on the surface.

Process-friendly: Stable arc, minimal spatter, and aesthetically pleasing weld formation.

Quickly determine the welding wire type from three aspects:

Appearance: Stainless steel welding wire is usually brighter and has a smoother surface.

Magnetic properties: Most stainless steel welding wires are non-magnetic or weakly magnetic, while carbon steel welding wires are noticeably magnetic.

Welding performance: Stainless steel welding wire produces a more fluid molten pool and a brighter color during welding.

Remember: ER70S series welding wires are suitable for welding ordinary steel. For welding stainless steel, choose a dedicated stainless steel welding wire with a "3XX" designation.
