Basic Types Of Wire Drawing Dies
Leave a message
For drawing soft metals (such as gold and silver), steel dies are sufficient. These dies can have multiple holes of different diameters.
Carbide dies-For drawing steel wire, carbide dies (Tungsten carbide nib) are generally used. A typical structure of this die consists of a cylindrical (or slightly tapered) carbide core tightly fitted within a circular steel case. The core's inner hole contains a bell radius, an entrance cone, an approach angle, a bearing, and a back relief.
Wire dies-For drawing non-ferrous metals such as copper and aluminum, similar dies are often used, although the inner hole shape differs slightly.
Polycrystalline dies-Polycrystalline dies (synthetic diamonds) can be used for drawing fine wires. There are also dies using natural diamonds.
